Export maps and reports
AstroCarto exports different files for different tasks: a map image preserves a view, a report PDF preserves a report document, and a chat TXT preserves a conversation. Start from the result you want to keep and use its own export action. Downloading a map does not also download its report or follow-up chat.
Which map format should I choose?
Generate the intended person's map, check its birth date and place, then set the visible planets and area you want to retain. Wait for the map background and lines to finish loading. Download Map opens the export choices; sign in and meet the map-download access requirement when prompted.
| Choice | Output or action | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| HD PNG | A PNG map image | A clear image for reviewing lines and labels. |
| JPG | A JPG map image | When your destination requires JPG, or a file-size limit makes the PNG unsuitable. Compare the actual file sizes and check that the labels remain readable. |
| Save for AI / Reddit | A PNG layout with map context and an interpretation prompt | Keeping birth/map context alongside the image. It does not send a message, upload a post, or obtain an AI answer. |
| Print / Save PDF | The browser's print dialog for the map image | Printing the view or choosing the browser's PDF destination if available. This is not a Personal Report PDF. |
| Copy image or Share image, where offered | Copying an image or opening the device's share interface | Moving an image into another app; the available choice depends on the desktop/mobile view and browser. |
A hidden planetary line remains outside the displayed map view. Choose the visible evidence deliberately before exporting; a clean-looking image with one planet enabled is not a complete view of all planetary evidence. Use the interactive map explains those display controls.
After choosing a file format, let Preparing... finish, then open the downloaded file. Check the birth identity shown, the map area, line labels, and whether the view contains the evidence you intended. A success message alone is not the same as locating and opening the file on your device.
In our teaching export, we generated a map with 15 January 1990, 12:15, London, then chose HD PNG from Download Map. The downloaded file was astrocartography-chart-1990-01-15-12-15.png, a 3200 × 2000 PNG. Opening it showed Your Astrocartography Map, the matching date, time, and London birthplace, the generated date, a world map with multiple planetary lines, and a planet legend. Exporting the same map as JPG produced a .jpg with the same 3200 × 2000 dimensions and matching input. Choose between these formats for the file you need, not for a different reading.
The PNG in this example was 2,226,637 bytes, about 2.23 MB; the JPG was 672,822 bytes, about 0.67 MB. Both had the same pixel dimensions. For an upload limited to 1 MB, this JPG fits while this PNG does not. Before using the JPG, open it at the size you intend to use and check the small planet labels and thin lines. If they remain readable, use it for that upload and keep the PNG for reference. These sizes describe this example; check your own files rather than assuming every JPG will have the same size or clarity.
That is a successful file check: the image opens and identifies the intended input and view. It is not a city ranking or proof that every line supports your goal. If you want a Sun-only view instead, change the visible planets before exporting again; keep the two views labeled separately rather than treating the first file as automatically updated.
If HD preparation falls back to standard quality, review the resulting image before using it where small text must remain readable. If copy or sharing is unsupported, the export may fall back to a download. Check which action actually completed. Review any included birth details before sharing the file.
How do I download the right report PDF?
Open the completed report you want to retain. A ready report PDF has a Download PDF action; a Personal Report may first show Prepare PDF. Use My Astrology Reports to reopen an existing report when that type is listed; you do not need to generate another report just to look for its download action.
| Result you have | PDF route | Confirm before saving |
|---|---|---|
| A Personal Astrocartography Report | If shown, select Prepare PDF, wait for preparation, then select Download PDF. If Download PDF is already available, use it directly. | Its title, original input, scope, and generation date. |
| A full Find My Best Places report | Download PDF in the completed full report | The goal, candidate scope, and ranked places. Basic candidate cards are not the full report document. |
| A Full AI City Comparison Report | Download PDF in the completed comparison report | The exact selected cities and goal. A basic Compare Cities result is a different stage. |
| A map view | Print / Save PDF from the map export choices | This produces a printed map view, not the narrative and evidence sections of a report. |
| A shared-places or move-timing result without its own PDF action | Keep its actual supported result and a separate research note | Do not use another report's button and assume it exports this result. |
For your own report:
- Confirm the report is complete and belongs to the intended person and question.
- If a Personal Report shows Prepare PDF, select it once and wait while Preparing… is displayed. When the action changes to Download PDF, the file is ready; it has not yet downloaded.
- Select Download PDF to start the download. Other report types may prepare the file after this click; let their download flow finish.
- Find the file in the browser's downloads list or chosen folder, then open it.
- Match its title, generation date, cities or scope, and important sections to the report you intended to keep. If it is an older result, keep it identified as such.
Check a downloaded comparison report
We reopened an existing synthetic teaching report titled Astrocartography City Comparison for Career: Paris, Lisbon, and Berlin, then used its Download PDF action. The downloaded PDF opens as four pages. This report belongs to the 15 January 1990, 12:00, London example; its original report date is 3 November 2026. It is a separate input version from the 12:15 map example above.
| Check in the opened PDF | What our file contains | What this confirms |
|---|---|---|
| First-page title and context | The three-city title; Selected goal: Career & recognition; Paris, Lisbon, and Berlin under Selected cities | This is the intended comparison report, rather than a map image or a different report type. |
| Generated on | 3 November 2026 | Downloading the file later has not turned it into a newly calculated result. Your displayed clock time can depend on timezone. |
| Executive verdict and city sections | Paris first, Lisbon second, Berlin third, with the corresponding career trade-offs | The narrative belongs to this goal and city set. Finding only the city names would not establish the same result. |
| Final-page Evidence used | Lisbon's Neptune MC caution at 170 km, alongside its Mercury MC and Saturn MC records | The saved document includes the evidence section, not just the first-page summary. Distances retain their displayed rounding. |
That completes the file check: the document opens, has its expected sections, and matches the report we selected. Four pages is this example's length, not a required page count for every report. Read a city section and its evidence before taking a conclusion into your notes; the comparison guide explains how the full report relates to the original comparison.
If you are downloading a Personal Report instead, check its own title, input and sections using Personal Report reading and next actions. A successful comparison export does not change which report you should choose. An existing report that remains readable online can still have a file-preparation problem; keep the original and the visible error while following the troubleshooting below.
Downloading an existing report and generating a new one are different actions. A new calculation or report can have its own access and credit requirements. If a report download displays an access message, use that specific message and the current plans; map-download access does not establish access to every report type.
If you are unsure whether to open or generate again, check existing reports and new research conditions before repeating the request.
How do I keep an AI conversation as a file?
Use Download Chat in the conversation you want to keep. The action needs messages, sign-in, and chat-export access. It creates a TXT file, not a report PDF. Let the response you want to retain finish before exporting, then confirm that it is included in the saved text.
- Open the relevant chat and check the question and visible messages. If you are discussing a report, make sure it is the intended report context.
- Select Download Chat from the chat controls or its actions menu.
- Complete any sign-in or export-access requirement, then return to the conversation and retry the export if needed.
- Open the resulting
.txtfile in a text editor. Check its chart-context header where available and confirm that the expected question and answer appear under their speaker labels.
The transcript includes the conversation text and a context header such as the birth date, time, or location when available. It is not an attachment containing the entire interactive map, report PDF, or every item of calculation evidence. If a header value is unavailable or the conversation changes topic, the messages still need to identify which result you meant.
Find the question and the complete answer in the TXT
In our synthetic teaching conversation, we asked how Lisbon can rank second while having Light support and Moderate caution in the Paris–Lisbon–Berlin career comparison. After the response finished, we selected Download Chat and opened the resulting .txt file. Its header identified London, 15 January 1990, 12:00, and Europe/London. Under You, the file contained the full question with the supplied ranks and line distances. Under Astro Chat, it contained the explanation and the practical question about a job's scope, decision rights, and reporting line, followed by the suggested questions.
Use the same checks on your file:
- Right conversation: find a distinctive sentence from your question, not only the birth location in the header.
- Complete exchange: find both the question and the end of the response you wanted. A file saved before a later reply will not acquire that reply automatically.
- Clear result context: keep the named cities, goal, ranks, or report title in the messages. In our conversation a Personal Report attachment was also visible, while the question explicitly identified a separate city comparison. The exported text's birth header did not list that full attachment context. Keep the source report separately rather than treating the header as a complete list of everything available in chat.
Exporting preserves what the assistant said, including uncertainty or mistakes. It does not verify the explanation or reconstruct the comparison formula. For example, a statement about unclear job responsibilities becomes a question to check with an employer, not a fact established by the TXT. Use the AI follow-up guide to compare the saved answer against the actual result before using it in your plan.
Exporting the current conversation and storing chat history in your account are separate capabilities. A TXT on your device does not prove the same conversation is available in account history, and a history entry does not mean a TXT has been downloaded.
What should I check if a download does not work?
| Symptom | Likely stage to check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in or access prompt appears | Authorization for that specific export | Use the same account that owns the report or relevant access. Do not assume access to one file type covers the others. |
| Map says it is not ready or the file is blank | Map area, tiles, lines, and loading state | Wait for the visible map to load, then retry the intended format. Check the result before relying on it offline. |
| Prepare PDF changes to Download PDF, but no file has appeared | Preparation is complete; the download still needs your action | Select Download PDF, then locate and open the file. The ready link alone is not a completed download. |
| A Personal Report shows PDF preparation failed. Retry | File preparation failed | Use the displayed retry action. If it fails again, keep the report title and visible message for support; do not generate a new report just to obtain its PDF. |
| Preparation takes time, or the button becomes available again without a file | The report exists, but the export may not have completed | Check the browser downloads list and any error first. Keep the readable report and its title; contact support if preparation repeatedly fails instead of regenerating the report to find a file. |
| HD export falls back to standard quality | Image quality fallback | Open the image and check line labels at the size you need. |
| Copy or Share produces a file download instead | Browser/device support | Look in downloads; it may have completed using the fallback rather than the requested app action. |
| The print dialog opened but there is no PDF | Browser print destination | Select a PDF destination if your browser offers one and complete its save step. Canceling print does not create a file. |
| A report file is missing or outdated | Wrong report, account, scope, or generation date | Reopen the intended report and download that version; do not regenerate simply to find an existing file. |
| The file downloaded but you cannot find it | Browser downloads and selected folder | Use the browser's downloads list, reveal the file, and open it. A website success message does not choose your folder for you. |
If the same failure continues, keep the visible error, file type, and report title or map input together when contacting support. Do not describe every export problem as a failed report generation; the result and the file can be at different stages.
How should I keep files alongside my online results?
Treat each export as a snapshot. Changing birth details, showing different planets, generating a different report, or asking a follow-up question does not rewrite a file already on your device.
Keep a small record with each important export: the person or teaching example, birth-input version, map view or report goal, cities where relevant, and export date. Preserve the original report date separately from the day you downloaded it. This helps you distinguish an old result downloaded today from a result calculated today.
Decide which file needs updating
A useful research set can contain a map PNG, a report PDF, and a chat TXT. Check their versions before grouping them. Our examples show why this matters:
| File in this lesson | Input or context to retain | How to label and use it |
|---|---|---|
| Map PNG / JPG | 15 January 1990, 12:15, London; the exported visible map | Keep as the 12:15 map version. It is not the map input used by the comparison example below. |
| Comparison PDF | 15 January 1990, 12:00, London; Career; Paris, Lisbon, Berlin; original report date 3 November 2026 | Keep as that earlier input's report, even if downloaded later. |
| Chat TXT | 12:00 London header; the question explicitly supplies that three-city Career comparison | Keep beside the result it discusses, with a note about any report attachment or context change. |
For your own research, if you correct 12:00 to 12:15, preserve the earlier files as the old input version. Generate the corrected map, rerun the city research you need, and obtain a new report if you need a document of those new findings. Renaming the old PDF does not update its contents. If only the visible planets or map area changed, export a new map image; that display change alone does not create a new report. If only a follow-up was added, export the conversation again after it finishes.
Before leaving, make one short record: file and folder → input version → city/goal or view → original result date → next check. For example, “Career comparison, Paris/Lisbon/Berlin, 12:00 London input, report dated 3 November; keep separately from my corrected 12:15 map.” This is a suggested note for your own files, not an automatically saved product field.
See saved data and results for where the corresponding account records belong. A saved destination, a downloaded file, and an online report are separate objects; keep the one you actually need to revisit.
Open the map generator for a map export, or return to My Astrology Reports for an existing report document.
