AstroCarto vs Astrotheme for Astrocartography
Start with AstroCarto if you are choosing where to live or travel and want to understand the trade-offs between real places. Find candidate cities, compare them around your goal, and keep the reasoning in a personal or city-comparison report. Ask follow-up questions about the result as you narrow your options.
Both AstroCarto and Astrotheme offer Solar Return tools for a birthday year and a selected return location. Astrotheme also offers natal charts, relationship tools, and written annual reports. If a chart reading has prompted you to consider a move, this comparison focuses on your next step: finding candidate cities, understanding their trade-offs, and keeping the reasoning as you narrow your choices.

AstroCarto or Astrotheme: which should you pick?
Choose AstroCarto to turn location research into a plan
For choosing between destinations, start with AstroCarto. Suppose an annual reading has brought career and home into focus, and you are considering Paris, Berlin, and Lisbon. Compare Cities puts the three places into one Career & recognition result, with their order, supporting signals, and cautions. Use the cross-goal matrix to check how the picture changes for home or relationships, then read a Full AI City Comparison Report for the reasoning behind the trade-offs.
If you have no shortlist, Find My Best Places returns candidates by goal and region. A Personal Astrocartography Report brings priority places, detailed city readings, five life themes, and an evidence map into a broader assessment. Shared-place and moving-time tools let you continue when a partner or a date becomes part of your question.
Choose Astrotheme for chart study and written annual reports
Astrotheme suits readers who want to study natal placements, relationship charts, and transits, or read a written Solar Return report for one birthday year. AstroCarto also calculates Solar Return charts and lets you ask AI about that result. For choosing destinations, its location tools take the question further: from finding cities to comparing their support, cautions, and trade-offs.
Features at a glance
Compare the starting point and output for each task. A birthday-location chart, a relationship reading, and a city ranking address different questions. Product information was checked on October 23, 2026; “not confirmed” means a corresponding capability remains unverified, not that it is unavailable.

Interface: from a yearly reading to a city shortlist
Imagine that you have been reading about your coming year and now want to investigate Paris, Berlin, and Lisbon for your career. AstroCarto's example uses fictional birth details—January 15, 1990, at 12:00 in London—to show how a city comparison helps you examine that choice.
AstroCarto
Generate your map, add the three cities to Compare Cities, and select Career & recognition. Read the supporting signals and cautions behind their order. Then use the cross-goal matrix to examine Home & emotional stability or Relationships & belonging; the strongest career result may involve a different balance for those priorities.
Open a Full AI City Comparison Report for the city-by-city reasoning. With your comparison attached, ask, “Which factors make Lisbon a mixed option for my career, and what should I examine before choosing it over Paris?” This keeps the follow-up tied to your selected cities and their calculated evidence. You can also investigate one destination in Check City before returning to the group.
Astrotheme
For a Solar Return, enter your birth details and the place where you will be at the annual return. The report connects that year's chart with your natal chart and interprets the annual themes. In the Los Angeles example below, the outer wheel is the Solar Return and the inner wheel is the natal chart. The report develops the reading through planetary dominants, houses, angles, and aspects.

The AstroCarto result identifies Paris as the clearest support and Lisbon as the most mixed, giving you a starting point for comparing their trade-offs. The Astrotheme figure shows the relationship between a natal chart and one annual return chart. These are independent examples of different outputs, not a same-data calculation test.
Features: what happens after you have read your chart?
AstroCarto
A reading may help you articulate a priority, but you still need places to investigate. Choose that priority and a region in Find My Best Places, review the candidates and their line evidence, then bring two to four realistic options into Compare Cities. The same goal gives you a consistent basis for examining the support and cautions across the group.
A Full AI City Comparison Report explains the evidence and trade-offs for your selected cities, with a PDF to keep. A Personal Astrocartography Report has a wider scope: priority places, detailed city assessments, five life themes, an interactive evidence map, and checks on birth-time and house-system sensitivity. Use those checks to see where the calculation assumptions call for more caution before narrowing your shortlist.
The complete personal report example shows why the reasons matter as much as the order. Orlando leads its place portfolio, yet has a Mixed assessment. Its supporting Jupiter ASC evidence appears alongside caution and conflict signals, giving you specific points to inspect before favoring it. This is a separate synthetic example from the Paris comparison. With your own completed report attached, ask AI, “Which supporting lines and caution signals should I weigh most for this city?”
For an annual-chart question, enter your birth details, return year, and return city in the Solar Return calculator, then ask AI about the annual themes in that calculated chart. When the question becomes where to live or travel, continue with the map and city tools to research destinations. The annual chart and location results use separate calculations.
When a partner joins the move, the shared-city workflow shows each person's support and cautions in the same destinations, helping you see whose priorities each place serves. Once you have a city and goal, Best Time to Move identifies windows to investigate over 3, 6, or 12 months. You can continue from choosing places to researching timing without treating a birthday chart as a moving calendar.
Astrotheme
Astrotheme's synastry chart shows two natal charts together, with positions, aspects, and interaspects; its composite chart offers another way to study the relationship. Its transit tool lets you choose dates and locations to examine planetary positions against a natal chart. The Solar Return report uses the selected return location to interpret one birthday year through charts and written explanations.
Create your astrocartography map
Enter your birth date, birth time, and actual birthplace. After generating your map, choose a destination in the city tools; keep the birth details fixed when comparing places. You do not need an Astrotheme account or report to begin.
For shared-place research, add the second person's birth details. For moving dates, choose a city and goal. Use the most reliable birth time you have, because precise angles and line locations depend on it.

Start with the question you have
Generate your map from your birth details, then follow the workflow that matches your next question:
- “My yearly reading has made me think about a move. Which cities should I research?” Create your map, open Find My Best Places, and choose a goal and region. Read the reasons behind the candidates before building your own shortlist.
- “Paris, Berlin, or Lisbon—which trade-offs matter for my career?” Create your map, compare the three cities under Career & recognition, and examine their support and cautions. Use a Full AI City Comparison Report for the detailed reasoning and further checks.
- “We have read about our compatibility. Where could work for both of us?” Create your map, open Find the Best Places for Two People, and add your partner's birth details. Compare each person's support in the same places, rather than treating relationship compatibility as a city recommendation.
- “I have chosen a city. Which periods should I investigate for a move?” Create your map, open Best Time to Move, and choose the city, goal, and time range. Check the windows against your work, housing, and travel constraints; those practical conditions are not calculated by the tool.
Frequently asked questions
How is a personal report different from a city comparison?
Compare Cities organizes two to four places you choose around one goal; its Full AI City Comparison Report explains the reasoning for that group. A Personal Astrocartography Report explores a wider location picture through priority places, detailed assessments, five life themes, an evidence map, and birth-time and house-system sensitivity checks. Choose based on whether you have a fixed shortlist or want broader research.
Do I need an Astrotheme chart to use AstroCarto?
No. Enter your own birth date, time, and birthplace in AstroCarto. It creates a separate map from those details and does not import an Astrotheme chart, report, or account. Select the places you want to investigate after generating your map.
Why do a Solar Return chart and an astrocartography result look different?
A Solar Return uses the annual moment when the Sun returns to its natal position, calculated for the selected return location. A natal astrocartography map uses the birth moment to map planetary angular lines. A natal relocation chart keeps that birth moment and changes the place used for the houses and angles. They address different questions, so a birthday-location reading is not the same calculation as a relocation chart or city ranking.
How does AI use my chart or report?
First create your AstroCarto map, city comparison, or personal report. Its calculated context can accompany a follow-up question, helping you investigate rankings, supporting evidence, and conflicts. In the Solar Return tool, AI uses that annual chart's context to answer questions about its themes. Neither workflow reads an Astrotheme PDF. Use the interpretation to guide further research; it does not guarantee an outcome from living or traveling somewhere.
Where should I start if I have no candidate cities yet?
Choose a goal and region in AstroCarto's Find My Best Places to get candidates with reasons and cautions. If an annual reading has helped you identify a priority, use that as your own starting question. AstroCarto calculates the location results from your birth details and selected goal, rather than converting the annual reading into a destination list.
Which should I use if I already have several candidate cities?
Start with AstroCarto's Compare Cities for a consistent view of two to four places under the same goal. Check their support and cautions, then use the cross-goal matrix to see how another priority changes the picture. Open a Full AI City Comparison Report for the detailed reasoning, ask follow-up questions about the result, and keep the PDF as you narrow your shortlist.
