Compare cities
Use Compare Cities in AstroCarto when you already have two to four places in mind. Keep the same birth details, select one goal, and compare the support and cautions behind each city’s position. The first-ranked city leads within your selected comparison; it is not a guarantee of the best place to live.

How do I compare my chosen cities?
- Generate your map with your birth date, time, and birthplace. Keep an uncertain time marked as uncertain rather than treating a guessed time as exact.
- Open Compare Cities in the map result controls.
- Search for a city, check its country and full place label, and select the matching suggestion. Add two to four distinct cities. Remove a city before adding a fifth.
- Choose Overall relocation fit, Career & recognition, Relationships & belonging, Home & emotional stability, or Travel & exploration.
- Select Compare Cities. If you change the cities or goal, run the comparison again before interpreting the new choice.
AstroCarto includes one free city comparison. Once that allowance is used, further comparisons—including reruns with a different goal or city list—require access that includes unlimited city comparisons. If prompted, sign in so AstroCarto can check your access. If your account does not include it, review the current plans and allowances. Generating a full AI report is a separate action with its own report access and credit requirements; unlimited comparisons do not by themselves include report generation.
The cities are destinations for the same birth chart, not different birthplaces for different people. If your birth details change, generate a corrected map before comparing. An estimated-time comparison still needs that uncertainty retained in its interpretation; it does not make exact-time features available.
If a place cannot be found, search with its country and select a resolved suggestion. Typing a name alone is not the same as adding that city. Check that at least two distinct cities appear in the selected list before comparing.
Check City describes nearby visible lines. Compare Cities uses all calculated planetary lines, including lines hidden on the map. If the results seem different, check the selected goal and evidence scope first.
What do the ranking and trade-off matrix mean?
- Comparison Summary: find the clearest support, the next better-supported candidate, and any city described as most mixed. “Close second” identifies the next candidate; it does not by itself establish a small gap.
- Compared Cities: read Main support, Caution signal, Why it ranks here, and the planet, angle, distance, and strength. Broad or weak evidence does not become strong just because a city ranks first.
- Trade-off Matrix: inspect support across the five goals. Its caution column relates to the selected comparison goal. Rerun the comparison if your main goal changes; the matrix is not a new ordering for each column.
A three-city example: support and caution are different questions
This example was generated on November 3, 2026 using fictional birth details: January 15, 1990, 12:00 in London, United Kingdom, with the time entered as exact. The same chart compared Paris, France; Lisbon, Portugal; and Berlin, Germany for Career & recognition. These are actual outputs for synthetic inputs, not a customer result or a general recommendation of these cities.
| City and rank | Calculated result | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Paris | Strong career support; Low caution. Sun MC appears at 0 km, rounded from approximately 0.3 km; Venus MC at 341 km is broad. | The clearest career support in this shortlist. The matrix still shows Weak support for relationships and home, so career strength is not an all-purpose verdict. |
| 2. Lisbon | Light career support; Moderate caution. Mercury MC at 304 km and Saturn MC at 277 km provide broad support; Neptune MC at 170 km is a caution. | A plausible alternative with a trade-off. Second place and “most mixed” can both be true; inspect the caution before treating Lisbon as equivalent to Paris. |
| 3. Berlin | Weak career support; Low caution. Venus MC at 433 km is wide context, and Sun MC at 746 km is weak. | Low caution does not mean strong support. The result offers limited evidence for this goal; it does not prove Berlin is a bad city or rule out a real opportunity there. |
Our reading of this example is to keep two questions separate: which city has stronger support for the chosen goal, and what would need checking before choosing it? If all of your candidates have weak or mixed signals, keep more than one option and use practical constraints to guide further research rather than forcing a decisive answer from the rank.
Read how the results are calculated. For a specific task, continue with career location research or travel location research.
Can I compare a destination with my current city?
Yes. Include your current city as one of the two to four selected cities in AstroCarto. It is an ordinary candidate, not a separate baseline score or an automatic subtraction from the other results.
For example, compare your current city and two possible destinations under the same goal. Ask what each destination adds or changes relative to the evidence for the place you already know. Keep lived experience separate from the calculation: feeling comfortable somewhere does not make a weak computed signal stronger.
If differences are weak or mixed, retain more than one candidate and identify the questions that would narrow the list. Rankings cannot settle housing, work arrangements, or the needs of your household.
What does the full city-comparison report add?
Generate Full AI Report adds a written interpretation of your calculated city comparison. This report explains your selected cities and goal; it is different from a Personal Report or a new search for other cities.
Open the preview, review its access and credit conditions, and confirm generation if you want to proceed. Sign-in, the relevant report entitlement, and sufficient credits are separate requirements. Check current plans and allowances and the cost shown in the preview. Credits are used after successful generation; reopening an existing matching report does not charge for a new report.
The completed report includes an executive verdict, ranking explanation, city-by-city analysis, trade-offs, caution summary, practical next steps, limitations, follow-up questions, and the evidence used. Match an interpretation’s evidence identifiers to the Evidence used section to check the city, planetary line, distance, and strength behind it.
Following one conclusion back to its evidence
The full report generated from the same three-city example retains Paris, Lisbon, and Berlin in that order. It explains Paris as career-leaning rather than equally supported across every life goal. It describes Lisbon’s communication and discipline themes alongside a caution about career clarity; Berlin remains a weak-evidence option.
“Lisbon ranks second and is the most mixed city in this comparison.”
From the same report’s Lisbon analysis. The supporting and cautionary evidence below explains why both descriptions apply.
For Lisbon, the report connects communication-oriented support to Mercury MC at 304 km (C2-career-MercuryMC-01) and its clarity caution to Neptune MC at 170 km (C2-career-NeptuneMC-03). Its practical-next-steps section suggests explicit, written career goals. That is the report’s interpretation of those signals, not a prediction of professional success or failure.
To apply that suggestion, you could check whether a proposed role has written responsibilities, clear success criteria, and agreed boundaries. This is our practical extension of the report, not information AstroCarto has obtained about a real employer. If Lisbon has a concrete opportunity and Paris does not, investigate that difference before acting on the symbolic ranking.
The AI report explains the calculated order; it does not rerank cities or supply missing planetary lines. To calculate a new ranking, change the selected goal or cities and compare again. The comparison allowance described above still applies.
How is comparison different from Find My Best Places?
Compare Cities starts with the places you select. Find My Best Places starts with a goal and region and searches its supported candidate pool. A city absent from discovery is not necessarily unsuitable, and a discovery list is not a ranking of every possible city. Read how discovery selects its candidates.
If your shortlist is already realistic, compare it directly. If you need ideas, use discovery first, then bring candidates you can actually investigate into Compare Cities. The place-selection guide helps you choose a starting point.
What can I do after comparing cities?
- Ask about the result.
Select Ask AI follow-up from the comparison. In your message, name the cities and goal, and include the displayed support and cautions you want to discuss. Then ask, for example, “Which caution makes the second city more mixed?” This is a suggested question, not a quotation from a generated answer. The AI does not automatically receive every report in your account; follow-up access and credits are separate from reading the comparison.
- Keep a completed report.
Use Download PDF in the completed report. Successful reports are available through My Astrology Reports in the account menu or View all reports in the report. Reopening the matching completed report or downloading it does not generate a new one; changing inputs or the goal can require another report. Unsaved comparison cards are not the same as a completed saved report.
- Research timing after choosing a city.
Use Best Time to Move for the selected destination. It requires an accurate birth time and answers a timing question for that city, not which city to choose. A window is not a guaranteed moving date or a joint timing result for two people.
