A field guide to maps, charts, and place-based methods

What Is Locational Astrology?

Locational astrology explores how astrological charts and planetary positions are interpreted in relation to places on Earth. For personal use, this broad field includes astrocartography, relocated charts, Local Space, and related approaches described with terms such as astrogeography. Each method asks a different question: Where do planetary themes become angular? What changes when a chart is recalculated for one city? Which directions stand out from a chosen place?

Use this guide to compare the methods, choose the one that fits your question, and create a personal world map as a practical first step.

01 / FIELD INDEX

Locational Astrology Methods Compared

Locational astrology is the umbrella term. Astrocartography is one technique within it, not a complete synonym for every form of location astrology. A relocation chart and a directional map also connect astrology with place, but they use different calculations and answer different questions.

Method Main question Typical output Best used for
Astrocartography Where on Earth was each planet rising, setting, culminating, or at the lower meridian at my birth moment? A personal world map with planetary lines Scanning countries, regions, and cities before choosing places to examine
Relocation chart What changes when my birth chart is recalculated for one selected city? Relocated angles, houses, and planet house placements Examining one city after it has become a serious candidate
Local Space Which planetary directions radiate from a chosen location? Directional lines based on the local horizon Exploring direction and movement from one specific place
Astrogeography How are astrological symbols or patterns associated with regions of Earth? The output depends on the system being used Understanding broader geography-based astrological traditions

These methods may support the same travel or relocation question, but their outputs are not interchangeable. Start with a planetary-line world map when you want to scan broadly. Use a single-city chart when one place is already under consideration. Use Local Space when direction from a specific place is the main question.

02 / TERMINOLOGY

Where Does Astrogeography Fit?

Astrogeography does not have one universal usage. Some sources use it loosely for locational astrology or astrocartography. Other traditions use astrological geography for systems that associate signs, planets, or symbolic qualities with regions of Earth instead of projecting one person’s natal chart onto a world map.

Labels such as “astro geography” and “geo astrology” are also used, so the calculation behind a map matters more than the label alone. AstroCarto’s personal world map specifically plots where planets were angular at the moment of birth. It does not present every geography-based astrological system as the same method.

03 / PERSONAL MAP

Create Your Astrocartography Map

A personal world map is a practical starting point in locational astrology because it lets you scan many places before deciding which cities deserve closer attention. Enter your birth date, exact birth time, and birthplace to generate the map. The result shows where each planet was rising, setting, overhead, or at the lower meridian at your birth moment.

Within locational astrology, these planet-angle lines are interpreted as areas where particular themes may become more noticeable. They are not automatic rankings of good and bad places. After generating the map, you can click a location, inspect nearby planetary lines and available signals, check a city, compare places, or continue into a more detailed location report.

The terms “astro location map” and “astro location chart” are often used for a personal world map like this, although they may also refer to a single-city relocation chart.

04 / CHOOSE A METHOD

Which Locational Astrology Method Should You Use?

The right locational astrology method depends on the location question you are asking.

When you want to scan the world

Start with a planetary-line world map. It shows the wider pattern of planet-angle lines so you can compare regions, notice which cities sit near relevant lines, and reduce a global search to a more useful shortlist. This is usually the clearest first step when the question is open-ended.

When you already have one city in mind

Use the world map for context, then examine a relocation chart for that city. The map shows how the city relates to the wider pattern; the relocated chart shows the angles, houses, and planet house placements calculated for that one location. One method does not replace the other.

When direction from one place is the question

Use a directional method such as Local Space. It begins from a chosen location and examines planetary directions around the local horizon. The generator on this page creates a planetary-line world map; it does not claim to perform a Local Space calculation.

05 / WORKED EXAMPLE

A Practical Locational Astrology Example

Suppose you are comparing Lisbon, Berlin, and Montreal. Start with your personal world map and inspect which planetary lines and available supporting signals appear near each city. This first pass helps you see whether the three locations emphasize different planet-angle combinations without declaring one city the winner.

If Berlin remains a serious option, check its approximate distance from relevant lines and review the place reading attached to that location. You can then generate a relocation chart for Berlin to examine its relocated angles, houses, and planet house placements. The world map narrows the field; the single-city chart examines one candidate more closely.

This locational astrology sequence does not make Berlin automatically better than Lisbon or Montreal. It turns a broad question into a smaller set of evidence you can compare with your goals and real-world research. If your original question is where you might live, continue with where to live with astrocartography after you understand the method boundary.

06 / LIMITS & FAQ

Locational Astrology Accuracy, Limits, and FAQ

Locational astrology depends on accurate birth and location data. Birth time is especially important because the angles used in a world map and the houses used in a single-city chart change with time and place. An approximate time may still support broad exploration, but it makes precise city-level conclusions less reliable.

This approach does not prove that a place will cause love, wealth, success, conflict, or failure. It offers a symbolic framework for comparing location themes. No planetary line is universally lucky, and a city without a nearby line is not automatically meaningless.

Treat a locational astrology result as decision support, not a substitute for practical research or personal judgment. The most useful result connects a calculated map with a clear question, a real place, and honest attention to work, housing, visas, safety, healthcare, cost of living, relationships, opportunities, and trade-offs.

01

Is locational astrology the same as astrocartography?

Not exactly. Locational astrology, sometimes called location astrology, is the broader field. Astrocartography is one technique within it. Single-city relocation charts and Local Space are other ways to connect an astrological chart with place.

02

What is astrogeography?

Astrogeography is a broad term with varied usage. It can refer to locational astrology generally or to traditions that associate astrological symbols with geographic regions. Because the label is not standardized, check what calculation and output a source actually uses.

03

What is an astro location chart?

“Astro location chart” may describe a planetary-line world map or a chart relocated to one city. A world map shows lines across Earth; a relocated chart recalculates angles and houses for one selected place. Check the output instead of relying only on the name.

04

Can I create an astro location map free?

Yes. AstroCarto lets you create the free core astrocartography map from your birth date, exact birth time, and birthplace. You can generate and begin exploring the map without logging in.

05

Which locational astrology method is best for moving?

Begin with a world map to scan regions and cities, then use a relocation chart when one city deserves closer examination. Neither method chooses a home for you. Compare the symbolic result with practical requirements, firsthand experience, and the trade-offs that matter to your move.
